A small but affluent village of Argyll and Bute, Shandon is located on the eastern shore of Gare Loch, 3 miles (5 km) southeast of Garelochhead and 3 miles (5 km) northwest of Helensburgh. West Shandon House became a military hospital during World War II, but was soon demolished to make way for the military port which is now HM Naval Base Clyde.
