Salen

Argyll and Bute

A village on the east coast of the island of Mull in the Inner Hebrides, Salen lies on Salen Bay, an inlet of the Sound of Mull opposite Morvern and 9 miles (14 km) southeast of Tobermory. On the north side of Salen Bay stands Aros Castle, which was built in the 14th century by the Lords of the Isles and later held by Maclean of Duart. From the 1850s until superseded by the Craignure pier the 1950s, Salen was served by steamers from Oban. An airstrip was opened nearby in 1966..
