Balemartine

Argyll and Bute

Located on the island of Tiree, Argyll and Bute, the settlement of Balemartine lies on the western shore of Hynish Bay, on the island's southeast coast. The Baptist Church here dates from c.1856 but the primary school closed in 1971. The settlement of Scarinish is located 4 miles (7 km) to the northeast of Balemartine, across Hynish Bay, while 2 miles (3 km) south lies the Hynish Centre, which was the shore-station for the Skerryvore Lighthouse and now includes a museum that documents the building of this remarkable structure.
