Barcaldine

Argyll and Bute

The scattered village of Barcaldine is located in the Benderloch district of Argyll and Bute, near the southern shore of Loch Creran, 5 miles (8 km) north of Connel. Two miles (3 km) to the southeast the peak of Beinn Bhreac (Ben Vrackie) rises to 708m (2342 feet). Barcaldine House was built by the Campbells in 1709 and is now a hotel. There was once a railway halt here, which opened on the Ballachulish branch of the Callander and Oban Railway in 1914 but closed with the line in 1966.
