Bonawe (Bunawe, Bun Atha)
Argyll and Bute

Situated on Airds Bay on the southern shore of Loch Etive (Argyll and Bute), close to the mouth of the River Awe from which it takes its name, the small settlement of Bonawe (once Bunawe, Gael: Bun Atha) lies a mile (1.5 km) northeast of Taynuilt, immediately to the east of Brochroy. Located here are Bonawe House and the well-preserved buildings of the Bonawe Iron Furnace, an 18th Century industrial site where cannons and shot were produced. Until 1967, when it was overtaken by the Connel Bridge, a ferry crossed Loch Etive here, linking to the settlement of Bonawe Quarries.
