Connel

A hamlet in the Lorn district of Argyll and Bute, Connel (originally South Connel) is situated on the A85 trunk road at the mouth of Loch Etive, 5 miles (8 km) north of Oban. It is joined to North Connel, on the north side of the entrance to the loch, by the Connel Bridge. The Falls of Lora lie immediately to the north, while overlooking these is the Falls of Lora Hotel, which dates from 1886 and was extended in the 1970s. St. Oran's Church was built in 1888 and includes fine stained glass. There is a post office, primary school and the settlement is served by a railway station known as Connel Ferry.
