Situated southwest of St Combs in the Buchan parish of Lonmay, northeast Aberdeenshire, stands the unusual Grecian style Cairness House, built for Charles Gordon of Buthlaw in 1791-97 to a design by James Playfair. Completed by Sir John Sloane after Playfair's death, it cost £25,000 to build.
