Benvie
Dundee City

A village in Liff and Benvie parish which straddles the boundary between Perth & Kinross and the City of Dundee, Benvie lies on the Invergowrie Burn to the north of the Dundee-Perth road. The old parish church lies ruined and a Pictish cross-slab of the 9th Century, formerly in the churchyard, is now in the McManus Galleries in Dundee. Benvie Manse was the birthplace in 1748 of the mathematician and geologist John Playfair. Just to the north lies Grayburn, a notable Arts and Crafts style house built in 1905.
