Newburgh

A dormitory village in the Aberdeenshire parish of Foveran, Newburgh lies on the south bank of the River Ythan, 4 miles (6.5 km) southeast of Ellon. It developed as a fishing village and port trading in grain, coal, timber and lime and during the 12th and 13th centuries had a hospice which was an outpost of Deer Abbey. The first lifeboat station in Scotland to be provided by the RNLI was established here in 1828. There is an 18-hole golf course.
