A small hamlet in an Aberdeenshire parish of the same name, Towie lies on the right bank of the River Don, 10 miles (16 km) south of Rhynie. Its church dates from 1803 and in its kirkyard is an interesting mortsafe. The Castle of Towie was a stronghold of a branch of the Forbes family.
