A village in an Aberdeenshire parish of the same name, Birse is situated 2 miles (3 km) southeast of Aboyne by the Burn of Birse which flows north to meet the River Dee here. Birse Castle lies some distance to the south near the Water of Feugh which flows eastwards through the Forest of Birse.
