Kirkton of Kingoldrum

A village in the Angus parish of Kingoldrum, Kirkton of Kingoldrum lies at the foot of Kirkton Hill on the Crombie Burn, 4 miles (6 km) west of Kirriemuir. The parish church was built in 1840 and to the south of the village stand the ruins of Balfour Castle, a former stronghold of the Ogilvies of Balfour said to have been erected in the 16th Century by Cardinal Beaton for his mistress, Marion Ogilvy, and their children.
