Dalcross
Highland

A location in Highland Council Area, Dalcross lies 6 miles (10 km) east of Inverness near the Moray Firth coast. In 1855 a railway station on the new Inverness and Nairn Railway was opened at Dalcross and during the Second World War a military airfield was built to the north. Originally known as Dalcross, this airfield was from 1946 developed as a Scottish Airways service acting as a stopover between Aberdeen and Stornoway. Renamed Inverness Airport in 1953, Dalcross developed in association with the expansion of internal air services and the creation of an industrial estate. The churchyard at Petty is the burial place of the Macintosh lairds of Dalcross.
