Now a northeastern district of Lossiemouth, on the coast of the Moray Firth, Branderburgh and its harbour were built c.1830 when the new town of Lossiemouth and the harbour by the Seatown could not cope with the increased volume of boats. The grid plan settlement was designed by George MacWilliam and named after local landowner colonel Brander of Pitgaveny. The Fishery and Community Museum contains scale models of fishing boats and a reconstruction of the study of Britain's first Labour Prime Minister, Ramsay MacDonald who was born in Lossiemouth in 1866.
