A settlement on the west coast of Shetland, in an area known as the West Mainland, Twatt lies at the head of Bixter Voe, a northern inlet of Sandsound Voe, 11 miles (18 km) northwest of Lerwick. The Burn of Twatt flows to the west of the settlement, emptying into nearby Effirth Voe.
