Nitshill
Glasgow City

A southwestern district of Glasgow, Nitshill lies between the Levern Water to the west and the M77 motorway to the east, 5 miles (8 km) southwest of the city centre. It developed in the 19th century as a distinct settlement in association with various mineral industries, including coal mining, and has an industrial estate with light engineering and textiles. A monument remembers the sixty-one men and boys killed by an explosion in the Victoria Colliery here on the 15th March, 1851.
