Glencorse

Midlothian

A settlement in a parish of the same name, Glencorse has become a northeastern district of Penicuik, lying 1¼ miles (2 km) from the town centre, immediately to southwest of Milton Bridge. Glencorse Barracks were first developed in 1803 and are now home to the Royal Highland Fusiliers. Glencorse House (1812) and the restored 17th C. old parish church lie a quarter-mile (0.5 km) to the north. The Old Kirk provided a location in the successful American television series Outlander (2014). The current church dates from 1883 and is the work of Robert Rowand Anderson (1834 - 1921).

Glencorse Golf Club was established in 1890. The course was once crossed by the sixteen-arch Glencorse Viaduct. This carried the Edinburgh, Loanhead & Roslin Branch of the North British Railway and was built in 1877 but demolished in 1987.

Glencorse Primary School closed in 2021. Glencorse Reservoir lies 2 miles (3 km) to the northwest.
