A location, comprising a farm, Monikie Parish Church and a few houses, Kirkton of Monikie is located a mile (1.5 km) east northeast of the village of Monikie and 4 miles (6.5 km) northwest of Carnoustie. The church was built in 1812 on the site of a previous church built in the late 17th or early 18th centuries, although a church here first appears in the record in the 12th century, when it was gifted to Arbroath Abbey by William the Lion.
