Newmachar
Aberdeenshire

A village in east Aberdeenshire, Newmachar lies on the A 947 road from Aberdeen to Oldmeldrum, 9 miles (14 km) northwest of Aberdeen. It is midway between Dyce and Oldmeldrum. Cattle and horse fairs used to be held at the New Machar Inn to the north of the village and Kinmundy to the south was the birthplace in 1580 of the cartographer Robert Gordon of Straloch. Newmachar lies on the line of the former Formartine and Buchan Railway which closed in 1979 and was subsequently developed as the Formartine and Buchan Way.
