Kirkton of Rayne
Aberdeenshire

A hamlet in mid-Aberdeenshire, Kirkton of Rayne lies a mile (1.5 km) to the northeast of Old Rayne at the heart of the parish of Rayne which once belonged to the Bishops of Aberdeen. The parish church, known as the 'white kirk of Rayne', was built in 1789. The 14th-century poet John Barbour, author of 'The Bruis', was minister here.
