Fintry

Situated at the head of Strathendrick, the village of Fintry lies on the Endrick Water which flows between the Fintry Hills and the Campsie Fells. It is a dormitory village for Glasgow, Stirling and Falkirk, with tourist facilities, hotels, caravan parks, local crafts, leisure centre, bowling club and sports centre built by the local community. The parish church dates from 1823 and the former manse, Dunmore House, was built in 1723. Upstream from the picturesque Low Bridge of Gonacahan lie the ruins of the 15th Century castle of the Grahams of Fintry and on a hill at the western end of the village is a well preserved mediaeval motte and bailey. Fintry, which lies at the centre of the Campsie Fells Trail, is a winner of the 'Best Kept Small Village in Britain' and 'Britain in Bloom' competitions.
