Rosal

Highland

The remains of a former township in Strathnaver, Sutherland, Rosal lies within the Naver Forest, 9 miles (14 km) northeast of Altnaharra. Rosal supported 70-80 people until it was cleared in 1816. The site was excavated in the 1960s and is now interpreted on site by the Forestry and Land Scotland. Opposite Rosal, on the east bank of the River Naver is a memorial to Donald Macleod, a stone mason who observed the clearing of the township.
