Lonmay

Aberdeenshire

A scattered settlement and parish of the Buchan district of NE Aberdeenshire, Lonmay lies 2 miles (3 km) southeast of Rathen and 9 miles (15 km) northwest of Peterhead. Lonmay once had a station on the Formartine and Buchan Railway, but this closed in 1965 but today the Formartine and Buchan Way follows the route of the former railway past Lonmay. It is said that Elvis Presley's family roots can be traced back to Lonmay in the 18th C. Lonmay Parish Church has a plaque which refers to Andrew Presley, who left Scotland in 1770 to travel to the Americas, settling in South Carolina.
