West Dunbartonshire

A location on the southeastern margin of Dumbarton, just to the north of the A 82 trunk road, Dumbuck lies adjacent to the village of Milton. The sizeable Dumbuck Quarry to the north has removed much of Dumbuck Hill. Dumbuck Crannog, located on the mud flats of the River Clyde, is an ancient timber platform which is exposed at low tide. Discovered in 1898, the site was subsequently excavated revealing an apparently rich array of finds, many of which were later suggested to be forgeries.
