Rottal
Angus

A hamlet of N Angus, Rottal is located in the middle of Glen Clova, overlooking the River South Esk, 9 miles (15 km) north of Kirriemuir. Once much larger, Rottal was associated with the growing and spinning of flax. The Rottal Burn passes through the hamlet and used to power a mill. Rottal Lodge, an imposing white house, is the Earl of Airlie's shooting lodge. It was refurbished in 1999 and remains in sporting use, with access to the 8906 ha (22,000 acre) Airlie estates, which offer shooting, red deer stalking, salmon fishing.
