Tarbert (An Tairbeart)
Western IslesSurrounded by rocky hills, the village of Tarbert stands on the half-mile (1-km) wide narrow neck of land that links North Harris with South Harris in the Western Isles. It is the main port for Harris and has car ferry links with Uig in Skye and Lochmaddy in North Uist. The settlement developed in association with a steamer pier from the 1840s.
