A location in the Stewartry, Threave lies to the southwest of Castle Douglas. It comprises Threave House (1873), Estate and Gardens, all now the property of the National Trust for Scotland, together with Threave Castle (c.1370) and Island, located 1¼ miles (2 km) to the northwest, with Threave Mains farm beyond. Threave Bridge crosses the River Dee a quarter-mile (0.5 km) northeast of Bridge of Dee.
