Inverlochy

Although the original name for Fort William, Inverlochy now forms an eastern extension of the town, located at the mouth of the River Lochy in the West Highlands. It was built in the 1920s as a company village by the British Aluminium Company to house workers at the Lochaber Smelter, which opened in 1929 a half-mile (1 km) to the east. The 13th-century Inverlochy Castle lies a similar distance to the northeast. The houses here were sold off by the smelter to their occupants in the late 20th century.
