Bridgend

West Lothian

A village of West Lothian, Bridgend is located a half-mile (1 km) south of Philpstoun and 2½ miles (4 km) east southeast of Linlithgow. The village grew markedly with the construction of the Bridgend Rows to accommodate workers for the former Champfleurie Oil Works. This was established by the Linlithgow Oil Company in the 1880s to process oil-shale but lasted barely 25 years. Bridgend & District Golf Club established its course on the site in 1999. Some of the Rows survive, but they were mostly demolished in the 1930s and replaced by more modern local authority housing.
