Old Sauchie

Clackmannanshire

A small hamlet in central Clackmannanshire, Old Sauchie lies 2 miles (3 km) north northeast of Alloa. The settlement is located next to Sauchie Tower, which dates from the early 15th Century and was built by the Shaws, one of whom was ambassador to King Edward IV of England and later Governor of Stirling Castle. Later surrounded by coal mines, the Devon Colliery Beam Engine House remains to the east. The Devon Iron Works once operated to the northeast. The Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals operates their National Wildlife Rescue Centre here.
