Woolfords
South Lanarkshire

A settlement and a locality close to the northern boundary of South Lanarkshire, Woolfords is located 6 miles (10 km) south southwest of Livingston. In the early 20th century, the Pumpherston Oil Company mined oil-shale to the east (close to Cobbinshaw Reservoir) and extracted paraffin at works nearby. The remains of the mine can still be seen. The settlement of Woolfords Cottages, a quarter-mile (0.5 km) to the north, was built for these miners. The main-line railway from Edinburgh to Carstairs Junction passes Woolfords.
