Kingscavil

West Lothian

A small settlement in West Lothian, Kingscavil lies 2 miles (3 km) east southeast of Linlithgow on the B9080 road (which was formerly the A9). The settlement grew considerably with the erection of Kingscavil Rows - 106 neat brick cottages arranged in four long rows - by the Linlithgow Oil Company to accommodate workers for their Champfleurie Oil Works, which was located at Bridgend a half-mile (1 km) to the east southeast. These cottages were demolished c.1937 and the post-office and other amenities are long gone. The school is now a private house but a church remains. Kingscavil Cemetery is located a half-mile (1 km) to the west northwest, while Champfleurie House is situated a quarter-mile (0.5 km) to the east.
