Kilpheder

(Cille Pheadair)
Western Isles

A scattered crofting township in the southwest of South Uist in the Outer Hebrides, Kilpheder (Gael: Cille Pheadair) is located 1¼ miles (2 km) southwest of Daliburgh and a similar distance north of North Boisdale. An Iron-Age wheel-house was excavated here in 1952, although there is little to be seen today. In 1997, a Norse settlement, comprising the remains of eleven stone buildings, was uncovered at Fairy Point (Gael: Sithean Biorach) a half-mile (1 km) to the northwest. The machair here is designated a Special Protection Area (SPA).
