Grogarry

(Groigearraidh)
Western Isles

A location in the north of the island of South Uist in the Outer Hebrides, Grogarry (Gael: Groigearraidh) lies a half-mile (1 km) north of Stilligarry and 1¼ miles (2 km) south of Geirinish. Grogarry Lodge is the principal residence of the island lying at the centre of the South Uist Estate, which is now community-owned. Once known as Grogarry Castle, it developed from a simple early 19th century farmhouse to form a shooting lodge for Sir Reginald and Lady Emily Cathcart in 1882. Loch Grogarry lies to the west.
