Liniclate

An extensive crofting township in S Benbecula in the Outer Hebrides, Liniclate (Linaclate or Liniclete, Gael: Lionacleit) lies a mile (1.5 km) northwest of Creagorry and 4 miles (6.5 km) south of Balivanich. The landscape dominated by a solitary wind turbine, erected in 2008. Liniclate also has a modern hotel, an office of Highlands and Islands Enterprise and the Benbecula Campus of Lews Castle College, all lying adjacent Sgoil Lionacleit, a large secondary school which opened in 1989 and serves all of the Southern Isles. The school incorporates community sporting facilities and a local authority museum, the Museum nan Eilean, which focuses on the social history of the islands south of Berneray.
