Lugton

Midlothian

A hamlet in Midlothian, Lugton lies on a slope to the north of the River North Esk, a quarter mile (0.5 km) northwest of Dalkeith. Built as the estate village for the Duke of Buccleuch's Dalkeith House Estate, which lies just behind, Lugton comprises fine properties dating from the 18th century to architect-designed 20th century structures. The former walled garden of the estate is now the location of two schools built by the local authority in the 1970s. The Lugton Inn lies at the bottom of the slope at Bridgend.
