Westfield

Fife

An industrial location in W Fife, Westfield lies 1½ miles (2.5 km) east of Ballingry and 2 miles (3 km) northwest of Auchterderran, close to the border with Perth and Kinross. A former open cast coal mine here was the deepest excavation of its kind in the UK at 215m (705 feet). There was also a development centre for British Gas located here, which has redeveloped as an Energy Park with a Biomass Plant producing electricity and fertiliser from poultry litter. In June 2003 the construction of a 400 MW gas-fired power station was approved.
