New Royal Infirmary being built at Little France, Edinburgh
©2011 Gazetteer for Scotland
A district and former hamlet of S Edinburgh, located on the Old Dalkeith Road 2½ miles (4 km) southeast of the centre of the city, close to Craigmillar Castle. The name comes about because it was here that the servants and courtiers resided, who accompanied Mary, Queen of Scots (1542-87), on her return from France.
