(Whifflat)
North Lanarkshire
A former collier village in Old Monkland parish, North Lanarkshire, which now forms a suburb of Coatbridge, Whifflet (once Whifflat) lies a half-mile (1 km) southeast of the town centre. The settlement lay at the centre of a highly industrialised area, comprising coal mines, iron works and a tinplate works. It remains a significant railway junction and has a railway station.
