Ewes

(Kirkton of Ewes)
Dumfries and Galloway

A small settlement in a parish of the same name, Ewes (sometimes Kirkton of Ewes) lies on the A7 trunk road and on the right bank of the Ewes Water, 4 miles (6.5 km) north of Langholm in NE Dumfries and Galloway. Located here is the grey-rubble parish church, dating from 1867, and in the kirkyard a 300-year old bell still hangs in a tree, placed there for safe-keeping when the previous church was demolished.
