Auchlossan

Aberdeenshire

A location in the Cromar district of Central Aberdeenshire, Auchlossan lies 1¼ miles (2 km) southwest of Lumphanan. There are farms at Mains of Auchlossan and Milltown of Auchlossan, while a corn and saw mill were once to be found at the latter. There was once a substantial but shallow loch to the southeast of the former, but this was partially drained in the late 17th century and completed in the 1860s, at some considerable cost because an underground aqueduct had to be built, some half-mile (0.8 km) in length.
