Baldragon

Dundee City

A location on the boundary between Dundee City and Angus, Baldragon lies a half-mile (1 km) northwest of Downfield and a similar distance west of Baldovan, 3 miles (5 km) north northwest of Dundee city centre. The name comes from an ancient tale whereby a young man called Martin killed a dragon nearby, the dragon having slain the nine pretty daughters of a local farmer. Baldragon once had a station on the Dundee & Newtyle Railway, which opened in 1831 and closed in 1955. It gives its name to Baldragon Academy on Burn Street a half-mile (1 km) to the southeast, opened in 1997 and which was BBC Radio Scotland's 'Soundtown School' in 2007-08.
