Thankerton

South Lanarkshire

A hamlet in mid-Clydesdale, Thankerton lies to the west of the River Clyde, 4 miles (6.5 km) west of Biggar. It was formerly associated with mills and later survived in association with road and rail links. The West Coast Main Line passes through Thankerton, but its station closed in 1965, a victim of the Beeching cuts which fell heavily on rural railway stations.
