Boreland

Fife

A hamlet on the northeastern edge of Kirkcaldy in E Fife, Boreland lies next to the railway and ¾ mile (1.3 km) north of the centre of Dysart. The settlement was founded c.1735 to accommodate colliers who worked in the nearby coal pits. A row of collier's cottages remains, but others have been replaced by public housing in the second half of the 20th C.
