Laidlaw

A surname from the Scottish Borders, found principally around Selkirk, Ettrickdale and in the Yarrow Valley. There is a Laidlawstiel Farm to the west of Galashiels. It is possible that the name originated from the town of Ludlow in Shropshire (England) but others suggest it may have come from the Anglians who established themselves in SE Scotland and NE England in the 5th Century. The Scottish family are regarded as a sept of Clan Scott.
