Yetholm

A parish in the Scottish Borders adjacent to the border with England, Yetholm's chief settlements are the twin villages of Town Yetholm and Kirk Yetholm which lie on either side of the Bowmont Water 7 miles (11 km) southeast of Kelso. Yetholm was for a long time the home of the Faa family, the 'royal house' of Scottish gypsies, the last of whom, 'Queen ' Esther Faa Blythe, was buried here in 1883. Sir Walter Scott based his character Meg Merrilies in Guy Mannering on Jean Gordon, a native of Yetholm and wife of Patrick Faa.
