Bu Ness

A hammer-head shaped peninsula on the east coast of Fair Isle (Shetland). North Gavel lies at the northern tip, with South Gavel a half-mile (1 km) away at the southern extremity. Devonian mudstones here yield the only specimens of the plant Svalbardia in Britain. Puffins can be seen emerging from their burrows on Bu Ness when they return to breed in the summer months.
