Abhainn Chia-aig

A river of the Lochaber district of S Central Highland, Abhainn Chia-aig flows from the small Lochan Fhudair for 4½ miles (7 km) south through Gleann Cia-aig to join the River Arkaig at the east end of Loch Arkaig. It flows in a steep gorge and is surrounded by forest in its lower reaches. There are pleasant walks through the forest to view its noted waterfalls. Abhainn Chia-aig features in scenes in the film Rob Roy (1995). This fast-flowing river provides challenging canoeing for those brave enough to attempt it. A 3 MW run-of-river hydro-electric power scheme was installed here in 2014-16.
