Merse

A low lying area in the Berwickshire district of the Scottish Borders, the Merse lies between the Lammermuir Hills to the north and the River Tweed which forms the border with England. Centred around the town of Duns, the Merse lands or March lands formed an ancient Earldom on the eastern march or border with England. Its chief town in Mediaeval times was Berwick-upon-Tweed.
