Glen Machrie The more southerly of a pair of modest valleys lying to the south of Islay Airport in the Inner Hebrides, Glen Machrie extends west from the remote highlands of SE Islay to reach Laggan Bay. Containing the Machrie River, Glen Machrie extends to 3 miles / 5 km and is joined by Glen Egedale a half-mile (1 km) east of Knockangle Point. Glenegedalemoor Lots lie to the north while Glenmachrie Lots are located to the south. Peat is cut nearby for the Laphroaig Distillery.
